QUEENS EARLY APRIL/October are £30 P&p £1.50
Re-Queening this must be done sooner or later! the Queen has the most important roll in the hive so always buy the best you won?t be disappointed.
The novice makes the mistake of looking at his bees at every opportunity he gets; disturbing the brood nest causing stress to the bees and the queen. Stress is a queen killer when the beekeeper is handling the hive, you can often observe the bees balling the queen.
There is a simple rule when Re Qeening; make the bees want a new queen, and they will accept one? The fastest way is to remove the old queen, and introduce the new queen to the hive 4 / 8 hours after,
Queen cages come in all shapes and sizes generally the function is the same: by opening the cage inside a large plastic bag this will trap all the bees in a confined place and make it easy to replace the queen back into the traveling cage on her own.
After removing all the workers bees. By sliding the opened candy end of the traveling cage down between the top bar of the frames (center of the nest) making shore Wax don?t block the escape hole, the bees will eat out the candy releasing the Queen.
This method works most of the time especially when there is a good honey flow.
After a few days lift the crown board remove the cage look to see if the queen is gone out the cage. Don?t remove the frames!
The young bees will have eaten the candy from the cage and released the queen the new queens fertility scents are spread in the hive (if the queens still in the cage you can release her safely the bees know she?s there)
Replace the crown board and close up. then wait for all the frames to compleatly fill up before you look in the frames DONT GO POKING ABOUT IN THE FRAMES LOOKING FOR EGGS AND QUEEN.
